Collection: Glass Beads

Traditional recycled glass beads are often referred to as “Krobo Beads” because they are made mainly in the Krobo mountains of Ghana. You may also hear them called “Gashi Beads” (gashi means fired in Swahili) or "Powder Glass".

The century old technique used to make the beads are still used today. The beads are made from recycled glass bottles and other glass item. Once gathered, first glass is sorted by colors and washed before being crushed into a fine powder. The powder is poured into clay molds and baked in a traditional clay oven at temperature of 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. After cooling, the beads are removed from the molds, washed and polished before off to the market and sold to make into beautiful jewelry.
